Mouthguards

At Bracebridge Dental Care we recommend that a mouthguard be part of every athlete's gear, no matter the sport. Parents should make sure their children are protected. Even adults and weekend athletes need to protect their smiles and preserve their health. Wear a mouthguard at all times when playing sports. It’s always best to wear a mouthguard custom-fitted by your dentist, especially if you wear bridges or braces. Don’t wear removable appliances like retainers when playing sports.

If you have any questions about dental health for athletes, please call our office at (705) 645-6655 and we’ll be happy to help you find the answers.

Adults Get More Cavities Than Kids

Modern dentistry, with the help of sealants, fluoride, and preventive care, has dramatically reduced tooth decay in children. However, there’s been an increase in decay in seniors. Some medicines dry out the mouth, for example, reducing salvia. Saliva is vital in fighting tooth decay because it helps neutralize acids, has a disinfectant quality, washes away bacteria, and helps prevent food from sticking to your teeth.

If you have questions about senior dental care, please call Bracebridge Dental Care today at (705) 645-6655.

Bad Breath Can Be a Sign of Dental Problems

While bad breath might be a symptom of some other disorder, it most likely stems from dental decay and periodontitis. It's more than just socially awkward - it's a serious threat to your oral health. Periodontitis is a disease affecting gums and bone that support the teeth, and it is caused by inadequate brushing and flossing.

If you’re worried about bad breath, call us today at (705) 645-6655 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hawthorn. If he finds gum disease and/or dental decay, it can be treated readily. There's no need to live with bad breath, and no reason to neglect your dental health.
